Step-by-Step Guide – Getting Married in Morocco

(Mixed Marriage)

This guide is for foreigners marrying Moroccan citizens in Morocco, whether you’re from Europe, America, Asia, or anywhere else.

Step 1: Prepare Documents from Your Country

Before traveling to Morocco, gather these documents:

❣️ Birth Certificate

❣️ Criminal Record (from your home country)

❣️ Proof of Employment or Income

➡️ Get them translated into Arabic by a certified translator and legalized if needed (we can help with this).

Step 2: Book Your Embassy Appointment in Morocco

Book a Notarial Services Appointment at your country’s embassy or consulate in Morocco, preferably before arriving, as slots fill up fast.

At your appointment, you will receive:

❣️ Certificate of Capacity to Marry (also called Certificate of No Impediment)

❣️ Notarized Copy of Passport

❣️ Affidavit of Nationality (if needed)

➡️ These documents need to be legalized by the Moroccan Ministry of Interior (Rabat) and translated into Arabic.

Step 3: Get Moroccan Documents

While in Morocco, you must obtain:

❣️ Medical Certificate of Good Health (from a local Moroccan doctor)

❣️ Moroccan Criminal Record (Casier Judiciaire)

❣️ 4 Passport Photos

❣️ Conversion to Islam (for non-Muslim men marrying Muslim women)

Step 4: Submit Your Marriage File to the Adoul

Once all documents are ready, go with your partner to the Adoul (official marriage notary) in the city where the Moroccan partner’s ID is registered.

The Adoul will :

  • Check your file

  • Submit it to the Family Court

  • Guide you through each step

Step 5: Police Interview

After submitting your file, you’ll be called to a police interview. This is a short and friendly meeting with your partner where you’ll be asked simple questions about your relationship.

Step 6: Judge Approval

After the police report is returned to the court, the judge reviews the full file. If everything is in order, they will issue permission to marry.

Step 7: Sign the Marriage Contract

The Adoul prepares the official marriage contract. Both partners sign it and receive certified copies.
You are now legally married in Morocco !
